Ionian (Major)


Backing Tracks for practicing improvisation in the First Mode of the Major Scale System.

Dorian


Dorian is the 2nd Mode. Many popular songs are written in this mode. This mode is used commonly in Rock, Blues and Blues/Rock songs.

Phrygian


The 3rd mode is exotic sounding and has been used for Heavy Metal and can be heard in many dark sounding styles.

Lydian


Lydian, the 4th Mode has been a favorite of instrumental guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai for decades. Lydian can be described as generally "Dreamy".

Mixolydian


Mixolydian has been a favorite of Jam Bands and Southern Rock bands for a long time. The 5th Mode has a "Happy, Rocking" vibe.

Aeolian (Minor)


The 6th Mode is a staple of Modern Rock. Minor is used by most every rock band to write much of the popular music that we hear today.

Locrian


Locrian is the 7th mode. It is used rarely and has a very dissonant sound. Locrian can be a great sound to use to get a listeners attention when used for effect.

Beginning Improvisation


These progressions are a great place to start honing your improvisation chops. Spend some time on each of these and as you "get to know" the opportunities in these progressions, you will gain confidence and hear more options.

Advanced Improvisation


These backing tracks range in complexity. They have challenging chord progressions as well as odd time beats.

Drum Beat Backing Tracks


Use these drum beat tracks to practice changing chords or simply as a "Rock Metronome".
